Meet Recaps

Little Splashers Unclassified (Oct 6 – 7)

This “unclassified”meet for 10 & unders was held at Loos Pool and our Mustangs swam great.  An unclassified meet is one with no time standards so anyone can swim in it.  Fifty-two of our Mustangs did choose to swim in it.  Out of 227 individual Mustang swims, 214 were best times!  We finished 6th out of 15 North Texas teams in the overall standings  and showed typically great Mustang team spirit while swimming fast which is a great way to start out the season!

Those swimmers who scored points in their respective age groups are listed below –

Parker Benn (8), Bianca Bowring (9), Carolina Campbell (8), Anna Crowling (9), Erika Echaniz (8), Megan Fitzgerald (7), Caroline Florence (10), Tiffany Futscher (10), Seth Gerstenfeld (7), Jacob Jum (8), Kenny Jen (9), Alvin Jiang (8), Brian Jiang (6), Pauli Kerr (9), Avery Kesterson (10), Kenzie Murphy (10), Molly Pospichal (10), Jake Varela (7), Elizabeth Wessman (8), Rebecca Wessman (8), William Wessman (9), Isabella Yepes (6)

Way to go Mustangs!

11 & Over “A” Meet (Oct 6 – 7)

This meet is held at Loos during the same dates as the Little Splashers but during different sessions.  Our team swam well, finishing 2nd out of 14 teams with many Mustangs winning their heats and racing well.  The meet was put on by COPS and was run well despite a large number of entries and somewhat lengthy sessions.  Since it was an “A” meet those entered in three or more events had to have a minimum of three “A” time standards.

Each Mustang who scored points for the team is listed below.  Those who won at least one individual event are italicized. Congratulations to all of our Mustangs for great efforts and some really nice swims!

Allison Arnold (15), Spindrift Beck (16), Jack Beckwitt (16), Luke Blaylock (12), Megan Ernst (14), Hannah Ferrin (16), Erin Florence (12), Eric Futscher (12), Laura Gray (12), Audrey Gruber (11), Leah Jones (15), Caitlin Klemme (11), Fernando Lara (16), Will McNamara (14), Max Murphy (17), Lauren Murski (12), Jordan Newman (15), Courtney Nichols (11), Natalie Rathjen (11), Lauren Roth (17), Andrew Tran (16), Harrison Tran (12), Caleb Veazey (16), Jake Watters (12), Keegan Watters (15), Scott Weeks (15)

DM Haunted Hat BB/B/C (Oct 19 – 21)

We ran two divisions of this meet and had as many people as we’ve had entry-wise in several years.  Meet Director Greg Robuck did a great job of organizing the troops and many of our old standbys like Adele Wherry, Wendy Begg, Tom Grubb, David Saliba, and the Maloufs seemed to be everywhere getting things done effectively as usual.  We finished 4th in a tightly contested team race out of 12 teams.  The haunted hat contest was pretty strong this year with some really scary entries!  Thanks to all of our volunteers (safety marshals, timers, hospitality, awards, etc) who helped make this another successful Mustang team effort in and out of the pool!

Those Mustangs who scored points in either the BB, B, or C Division are listed below.

Harrison Armstrong (11), Davis Benn (10), Parker Benn (8), Bianca Bowring (9), Parker Capron (10), Elsie Cardenas (16), Kristie Cheng (7), Stephen Cheng (8), Eliza Cope (11), Anna Crowling (9), Nolan Daniels (10), Patrick Daniels (9), Alex Diduck (12), Clare Donaldson (10), Sara Duke (9), Kendall Ernst (11), Luis Estrada (12), Caroline Florence (10), Erin Florence (12), Caroline Forbess (7), Amanda Fugate (10), Sara Granger (13), Joe Gray (10), Audrey Gruber (11), Olivia Gruber (8), Kaylan Hardin (10), Jon Hoffman (13), Jacob Hum (8), Madison Hutts (8), Gabi Jackson (11), Kenny Jen (9), Alvin Jiang (8), Molly Kamuyu (15), Siobhan Kelley (12), Pauli Kerr (9), Morgan Koranda (12), Simone Lalvani (14), Tara Lalvani (9), Sofia Lara (7), Cameron Malakoff (10), Mika Malouf (10), Mary Katherine Mangin (12), Boni McVey (10), Ishan Mistry (7), Gordan Montgomery (8), Andrea Mora (10), Natalie Morris (10), Conner Mullen (11), Lauren Murski (12), Reese Myers (12), Courtney Nichols (11), Jeffrey Nichols (13), Sydney Patterson (13), Grace Pospichal (10), Molly Pospichal (10), Laura Rathjen (11), Natalie Rathjen (11), Rodrigo Reyes (15), Mady Rhodenbaugh (10), Spencer Rhodenbaugh (6), Hector Riveria (11), Mead Robuck (12), Charlotte Rolfe (10), Yui Sato (13), Jena Seidemann (10), Mary-Carolyn Sloan (9), Alex Tcheng (8), Carolyn Thomas (12), Virginia Tiernan (8), Maria Tovar (8), Annelyse Tullier (10), Dana Valelly (9), Jake Varela (7), Jo Jo Veazey (11), Catherine Ward (14), Elizabeth Wessman (8), Rebecca Wessman (8), William Wessman (9), Jaclyn Zhou (12), Max Zotos (11)

Message from our Meet Director

The Haunted Hat Meet hosted over 800 BB, B, and C swimmers. We received many compliments at that meet about all aspects of how it ran. Special thanks go to the Malouf family for all their long hours of tedious work with meet entries, psych sheets, computer work, and results. Their work was high quality, efficient, and professional. Many thanks also to the Veazey family, who helped work several aspects of this meet, including Jeff kicking off our Coffee Sales drive. Shannon Veazey did an excellent job, as usual, of feeding several hundred meals to our volunteers in Hospitality. Barb Beckwitt in Awards did a great job. She helped judge our Haunted Hat contest, with over 60 swimmers entering various hats. She even ordered some very special ribbons that we presented to the top finishers. Many others helped in thankless ways, officiating, selling heat sheets, working as safety marshals, and numerous other duties.

After GCAT withdrew hosting their fall meet, we hastily bid and were awarded that meet. This DM Fall “A” Meet saw over 500 ‘A’ swimmers competing in some very fast swimming. Again, many parents came together to volunteer, and they put on another high quality meet. Thanks go to Nancy Beck, who had a large banner made for Mook. We presented this to Mook just before the start of the Sunday session, recognizing his prestigious award of TSA’s 2007 Coach of the Year. Special thanks to Adele Wherry, who quietly worked many long hours with meet entries, psych sheets, computer work, and results. I think her most surprising skill is her uncanny ability to answer my questions just before I ask them, earning her the nickname, “Radar”.  And our head of Hospitality, Kristin Mullen, raised the bar up a couple of notches from the already good food we usually expect at meets. She went way beyond all expectations, with decorations, candles, delicious late afternoon snacks, and even cards with food descriptions. She treated our Hospitality guests in a special way.

Many of you may not know that David Saliba is the person in charge of the meet setup. He tirelessly runs cables, hooks up electronics, tests the systems, and does flags, ropes, and a lot of other equipment setup at two pools for every meet. Then, after the meet, he does a complete teardown, inspection, and storage of all this unwieldy equipment. Like a good magician, he makes it all look simple, but I can testify to you that it is very time-consuming, tedious work, requiring a large amount of specialized knowledge. Next time you see David, please tell him how much you appreciate his behind–the-scenes work!

As usual, we had at least four Mustang parents working as officials, standing on deck for many endless hours at many sessions. Keep in mind that these dedicated professional people work many other meets beyond ours, often with little thanks.

To all of you who gave time and effort at these meets, my sincere thanks. Along with the coaches, you are the ones that make this team great!

We could certainly have used more volunteers at both meets. For those of you who didn’t contribute time and effort for these two exciting meets, I encourage you to talk with those who did. I think you’ll find that volunteering is fun, easy, rewarding, helpful, necessary, and doesn’t have to take more than a few hours of your time. I would like to see every Mustang family involved in volunteering at our upcoming ‘A’ and ‘BB’ Championships Meets in February.

As always, I’m glad to discuss any aspect of volunteering with you, at 214-351-0715 or greg23@swbell.net.

Sincerely,

Greg Robuck

Meet Director

New Tuition Policy

The Dallas Mustangs is a competitive year round age-group swimming program.  As such we strive to provide consistent quality coaching and workout facilities.  To achieve this goal we establish pool rental contracts and salary commitments with our coaching staff for a full 12-month period.  The Dallas Mustangs Swim Team is not, and was not designed to be a swim program where swimmers drop in one month and out the next.  Flexibility has always been important to us.  We try to work with each family on the team and we will continue to do so.

Tuition may be paid annually or monthly.  Monthly Tuition must be paid via electronic bank draft or credit card only.  NO checks will be accepted at any pools or through the mail.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  Annual tuition may be paid by check submitted with your registration form.

·        Tuition is due from September through July.

·        Leave of Absence (LOA) is available only for injury and medical reasons.

·        There will be a $10.00 per month discount for the second and subsequent swimmers in the same family.  The fourth swimmer is free.

·        If dues are paid annually, there will be a $110.00 discount for the second swimmer and a $220.00 discount for the third swimmer. If there are more than 3 swimmers; the three highest tuition rates will be billed and the 4th and subsequent swimmers are free.

·        A swimmer transferring from another team must be in good standing with their old team.

·        Tuition is due the first of every month. There will be a $5.00 per family late fee after the 10th of the month for non-zero balance accounts.

·        There are no tuition refunds, tuition paid for the month or the year commits you for that period.

·        Written communication to the DM Treasurer is required to change or stop automatic billing.

·        The swimmer(s) may be barred from swimming if there is an aged account balance is excess of 60 days.

Any questions regarding billing should be addressed to the team treasurer via e-mail:   treas@dmswim.com

Meet Entry Policy:

Meet entry fees will be paid by credit card only.  Your credit card will be charged monthly.  There will be a $1.00 surcharge per meet per swimmer added to the fee.  Meet entry fees will be charged separate from tuition charges.  All swimmers must maintain a current and up to date meet entry account.   Swimmers who do not provide valid credit card information for meet entry fees will not be allowed to enter swim meets.
