MEET RECAPS

COPS B/C Meet (April 21-22)

Forty of our Mustang B/C Swimmers competed in this early season short course yards meet at the Oak Point Recreation Center in Plano.  We finished third out of thirteen teams and only two kids out of the forty did not record at least one best time and most recorded all best times.  Coaches Karen, Chris, and Kameron were pleased with the kids’ team spirit and energy in and out of the pool!  Below is a list of those who competed in the meet.  Those swimmers who won either a B or C level event have their names bolded.  Go Mustangs!

Clare Allsop-Shiner (11), Parker Benn (7), Carolina Campbell (8), Parker Capron (9), Anna Crowling (9), Hannah Delagi (11), Luis Estrada (12), Nicole Ewer (10), Amanda Fugate (9), Seth Gerstenfeld (7), Kaylan Hardin (10), Angie Huang (11), Johnathan Huang (7), Jacob Hum (7), Alvin Jiang (8),  Mikaela Johnson (9), Siobhan Kelley (11), Sofia Lara (6), Ellie Light (10),  Mika Malouf (9), Boni McVey (9), Connor Mullen (11),  Courtney Nichols (11), Sydney Patterson (12), Laura Rathjen (11), Hannah Reifsnyder (11), Yui Sato (12), Shauna Seidel (9), Alex Tcheng (8), Dylan Tcheng (10), Virginia Tiernan (8), Jake Varela (6), Ellie Ward (11), Michelle Wessman (11), Rebecca Wessman (7), William Wessman (9), Jono Womack (12), Brian Yen (12), Jaclyn Zhou (11), Annalyse Zotos (9)

FAST A/BB Invitational (April 27-28)

This weekend just did not work out for many North Texas area swimmers.  There was a time-trial for the 400-meter free which was held in Southlake since the actual event was limited to only a few entries but only 5 of our 40 swimmers entered in the event participated in it.  Then the FAST pool got cloudy literally during one of the last events of the Saturday morning session (which was running long anyway due to some technical issues) that led to the cancellation of the entire next session and the next morning’s one as well.  Needless to say very few kids were able to get in more than a couple of events.  We tied for 3rd place out of 21 teams in the shortened meet which seemed to be doomed from the start.

Here is a list of those who participated in the Invitational and the time trial.  Those whose names are bolded won at least one event in either the A or BB divisions.  Way to hang in there Mustangs!

Kendel Ahnell (15), Aaron Applebaum (13), Spindrift Beck (16), Cassidy Beckwitt (14), Jack Beckwitt (16), Luke Blaylock (12), Elizabeth Crowling (11), Patrick Crowling (13), Hannah Ferrin (15), Caroline Florence (9), Erin Florence (12), Mitchell Goulding (16), Sara Granger (13), Stephanie Grote (15), Audrey Gruber (10), Emma Gruber (12), Bolton Harris (16), Andrew Harvey (17), Jacey Hodan (13), Greg Hoffman (15), Jon Hoffman (13), Berkley Johnson (11), Ann-Claire Karalyos (12), Avery Kesterson (9), Caitlin Klemme (11), Caitlin Koranda (13), Morgan Koranda (11), Fernando Lara (15), Pablo Lara (13), Pia Lara (17), Miyo Malouf (13), Lauren Murski (11), Jordan Newman (15), Courtney Nichols (11), Jeffrey Nichols (13), Steven Nichols (15), Adam Rathjen (9), Natalie Rathjen (11), Delaney Rolfe (15), Nicholas Saliba (16), Kyle Savage (17), Annie Smith (14), Erin Smith 17), Clay Taylor (15), Jessica Temple (16), Taylor Temple (13), Andrew Tran (16), Annelyse Tullier (10), Casey Watters (13), Jake Watters (12), Meaghan Watters (17), Trayce Womack (18), Max Zotos (10).

SWAT B/C Meet (May 5-7)

This B/C meet was attended by twenty-three Mustang swimmers.  All but two swimmers got at least one best time!  We lost the team title by a scant 24 points despite our relatively light attendance so those who did show up did some serious swimming!  The meet was held in Duncanville and was run well by both the SWAT group and the team of officials who were working the meet.  Those swimmers who participated in the meet are listed below.  The ones who tasted victory at least once are bolded.  Congratulations to our B/C Mustang swimmers.

Parker Benn (7), Carolina Campbell (8), Parker Capron (9), Luis Estrada (12), Amanda Fugate (9), Kaylan Hardin (10), Jacob Hum (7), Gabi Jackson (11), Alvin Jiang (8), Briana Kuhn (7), Ellie Light (10), Mika Malouf (9), Gordon Montgomery (8), Connor Mullen (11), Laura Rathjen (11), Hannah Reifsnyder (10), Kelsey Robuck (9), Mead Robuck (11), Virginia Tiernan (8), Ellie Ward (11), Rebecca Wessman (7), Jono Womack (12), Jaclyn Zhou (11)

DM “A” Classic (May 11-13)

This annual Mustang meet is held at SMU and we swam well and won the meet by about 500 points over COPS.  The weather held out for us this year after a couple of unlucky years and we definitely took advantage of it.  The meet was run well by our awesome Mustang parents and volunteers so that all of the sessions finished within minutes of each predicted timeline.  Below is a list of those Mustangs who competed in the meet.  Those that won at least one event have their names bolded.  Way to go Mustangs!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!

Dallas Amateur Swimming Association (DASA) Swim Meets

Each year, the Dallas Mustangs host the DASA Divisional Championship and All-Star swim meets.  These meets bring together, in a championship format, approximately 1,800 recreational summer swimmers for the final meets of their summer season.  The Dallas Mustangs host these meets as a fundraiser for our team in that the DASA League pays us to host these meets.  This year the dates/times for the meets are as follows:

Wednesday, July 11th

Division D & E Divisional Championship -         Warm-up: 8:00 AM

Meet:   9:00 AM – 12:00 Noon

Division A Divisional Championship -    Warm-up: 12:30 PM

Meet:   1:30 PM – 5:00 PM

Thursday, July 12th

Division C Divisional Championship -    Warm-up:  8:00 AM

Meet:   9:00 AM – 12:00 Noon

Division B Divisional Championship -    Warm-up: 12:30 PM

Meet:    1:30 PM – 5:00 PM

Monday, July 16th

All-Star Meet                                       Warm-up: 2:00 PM

Meet:   4:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Note:  All meet finish times are approximate and are based on last years’ entries.

As you are all aware, it takes many volunteers to host and successfully run a swim meet of this size.  In addition to our parent volunteers, we also allow many of our swimmers to volunteer at these meets in areas such as ready bench, runners, awards, etc.  In addition to supporting the team fundraiser, this activity allows our swimmers to gain an important appreciation for the volunteer efforts that go into each and every swim meet that they attend.

The success of these meets is also an important recruiting tool for the Dallas Mustangs as we have the opportunity to meet some of the best recreational swimmers in the Dallas area.  Many of these swimmers may also be considering joining a year round swim program, and through these swim meets the Dallas Mustangs are their first USA Swimming contact.

Additionally, the Mustangs Bucks volunteer awards program provides for double Mustang Bucks when volunteering at the DASA Fundraiser Swim Meet.  Therefore, a volunteer may earn $20.00 in Mustang Bucks for volunteering 5 – 10 hours, and $50.00 for volunteering greater than 10 hours.  (There is still a maximum Mustang Buck limit of two (2) credits per family for the event.)

We would like to encourage everyone, parents and swimmers, to volunteer in some way to help with the DASA Championship Swim Meets.  You can volunteer by sending an email to one of the Chairmen listed below or to Adele Wherry at adele.wherry@verizon.net; or by agreeing to work a session(s) when someone calls or approaches you and asks you to volunteer.  Swimmers should sign up to volunteer at this meet with either Coach Mook or Coach Doug.  This is one of those opportunities to work together as a team and get to know many of the other team members a little bit better.  Remember – NO Experience is Necessary, We provide On The Job Training.  There is also a team get together planned for all volunteers on Monday, July 16th after the All-Star session and clean-up.

DASA Heat Sheet Advertising Opportunity

Here is an opportunity to have your team or business advertised in the DASA Divisional and All-Star heat sheets.  DASA is the Dallas Amateur Swimming Association whose membership includes thirty four summer recreational country club and neighborhood association swim teams.  The DASA Divisional and All-Star Championship meets have approximately 1800 participating swimmers and are well-attended by families from all over the DFW Metroplex. These swimming families are potential clients for businesses run, owned and patronized by our swimming families. This is also an opportunity to show your team spirit.  If you or anyone you know would like to place an ad in the DASA Championship heat sheets, please fill out the following advertising contract and follow the directions for payment. The ads will run in five heat sheets, during the week of July 11 – July 16, 2007, providing a lot of exposure!

 DM Tuition Policy Reminder

The Dallas Mustangs is a competitive year round age-group swimming program.  As such we strive to provide consistent quality coaching and workout facilities.  To achieve this goal we establish pool rental contracts and salary commitments with our coaching staff for a full 12-month period. Tuition amounts are established based on the 12-month budget and divided into monthly or quarterly amounts to provide reasonable payment options for our Dallas Mustang families.  The Dallas Mustangs Swim Team is not, and was not designed to be a swim program where swimmers drop in one month and out the next.  Flexibility has always been important to us.  We try to work with each family on the team and we will continue to do so.

Tuition may be paid quarterly: September, December, March, and June, or monthly.  Tuition paid monthly includes a $5.00 per month processing fee.  (If tuition for the quarter is not paid by the due date, monthly payment has automatically been selected.)

·         Tuition is due from September through August.  (If you swim in July, you are responsible for August tuition.)

·         Tuition is due on the 1st of each month/quarter.

·         Leave of Absence (LOA) is available only for injury and medical reasons.

·         There will be a $10.00 per month tuition discount for the second and subsequent swimmers in the same family.  The fourth swimmer is free, but all swimmers must pay the annual registration fee.

·         A swimmer transferring from another team must be in good standing with their old team.

·         Statements are only mailed quarterly. If you have chosen to pay monthly, it is your responsibility to remember to mail or drop off tuition by the first of each month that we do not send statements.

·         There will be a $5.00 per family late fee after the 10th of the month for non-zero balance accounts.

·         The swimmer(s) may be barred from swimming if there is an aged account balance is excess of 60 days.

·         Please indicate in the memo portion of all checks what the payment is for (i.e. Dues – swimmer’s name, meet account, supplies, etc.).

·         If there is a problem with your billing, please contact the treasurer.

·         Should circumstances prevent full payment of your tuition, please contact the president.  Scholarships and alternate payment plans will be addressed on a case by case basis.  (Please Note: Lack of communication is not an option!)

·         Should you choose to leave the team – it is your responsibility to contact the treasurer or registration chairman.  (Informing the coach does not fulfill this responsibility!)

·         If you choose to leave the team for the summer, you must go through the tryout process in the fall. You may not return to workouts until you have attended the tryout, completed paperwork and paid your fees.  You are not automatically guaranteed a spot on the team. If your group is full, your name will be placed on the waiting list.  Any tuition/fee balances that were not paid when you left the team must be paid prior to re-joining the team.

·         If you choose to leave the team at any point during the year, you MAY NOT represent the Dallas Mustangs at any swim meet or event that occurs after the date you have left the team. Should you choose to participate in a swim meet after you have left the team, you must register for the meet and swim as unattached (Team = UN).

·         Tuition may be sent with the swimmer to the pool, or mailed to the Treasurer:
