MEET RECAPS

Greater Southwest A Meet (Jan 26-28)

This prelim/final meet was held at Loos about a week earlier this year due to conflicts with area high school regional meets.  The Mustangs finished 4th out of 32 teams only 22.5 points out of 3rd place despite most of our high school kids only swimming one day of the meet.  We swam well individually and got many personal best times.  Below is a list of those who competed in the meet in individual events.  Those that are bolded won at least one individual event. Way to go Mustangs!

B/C Championships (Feb 9-11)

In terms of participation and performance this was one of our better B/C Champs ever.  We had over 45 kids entered in the meet and every single person got at least one best time, many got all best times.  We finished 2nd out of 25 teams and about 60 points ahead of 3rd place COPS.  Those swimmers who were part of this great effort are listed below.  The ones with their names bolded won at least one event in either the B or C level.  Awesome job Mustangs!

A & BB Championships (Feb 14-16)

The Mustangs hosted both of these meets which were held simultaneously at opposite ends of Loos pool.  Thank you to all our Mustang volunteers and our meet director Jeff Veazey for pulling off what was certainly a challenging event to host.  Special thanks also to Wendy Begg and Tom Grubb who don’t even have any kids on the team anymore but still logged in a bunch of hours!  The meet was challenging to host since the high school state meet was the same weekend and many of our parents and swimmers were in Austin.  We finished a respectable 3rd in both events and had at least one best time from about 90% of those entered in both meets.

Those who competed in the A meet are listed below.  The names that are bolded represent those that won at least one individual event and those that scored individually are in italics.  Congratulations to all of our Mustangs!

Texas Age Group Championships (Mar 8-11)

TAGS was again held at the fast University of Texas pool in Austin this year and our Mustangs came through with another top 10 finish (10th) with 219 points.  Special congratulations to our TAGS Champions Allison Arnold (200, 500, 1000, 1650 frees & 400 IM) and Taylor Temple (200 breast).  Allison also finished 1st in the high point battle for 14 year olds with 59 out of a possible 61 individual points.  It was an interesting meet since this is the first year they had “off” year age group qualifying times (11 & 13 yr olds).  We scored quite a few individual events due to the new format but less than in the past on our relays. We had just under 30 kids participate in the meet. Those that qualified for individual events are listed in italics below and those that scored individually are bolded.  Way to go Mustangs!

Allison Arnold (14), Christopher Alkire (13), Luke Blaylock (11), Emily Elson (10), Caroline Florence (9), Erin Florence (12), Eric Futscher (12), Tiffany Futscher (9), Des Godfrey (14), Audrey Gruber (10), Emma Gruber (12), Tanner Harris (12), Jacey Hodan (13), Ann-Claire Karalyos (12), Jack Ken (14), Malin Kenny (14), Avery Kesterson (9), Will McNamara (14), Sam Murphy (13), Lauren Murski (11), Courtney Nichols (11), Natalie Rathjen, Taylor Temple (13), Harrison Tran (11), Liam Veazey (13), Jake Watters (11), Keegan Watters (14), Ann Weeks (12), Kendall Williams (13)

Mustangs Finish Fifth at Spring Nationals

Almost 900 swimmers from swim clubs and universities across the United States gathered in Long Island, New York for this year’s Spring Nationals.  The competition marked the end to a long, hard fought swimming season that started in September and included meets on the high school, regional, national, and even international levels.  The Mustangs were well represented with 13 athletes and proved that they were again a force to deal with, finishing fifth overall in the team standings.

The Mustangs were led by Spin Beck, with three top eight finishes, and Matt Thompson, with four top eight finishes.  Our team also showed their traditional strength and depth on relays by scoring in five out of the six relay events.  These are some amazing achievements on the national level and our swimmers efforts, not only at Nationals but at all of this season’s championship meets, should make the entire Mustang family proud.

 CONGRATULATIONS MUSTANGS!!!

Attention Mustang Parents

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS!

The Dallas Mustangs will host an "A" meet May 11-13 at the Barr outdoor pool on the SMU Campus.  There will be four sessions; one Friday late afternoon, Saturday morning, Saturday evening, and Sunday morning.  This is one of the first long course meets of the season, so we can expect that there will be lots of swimmers attending.  Volunteers will be needed for all four sessions.  Remember, Mustang Bucks, good towards a credit on tuition, will be awarded to volunteers whose hours and work qualify.  Volunteers are needed to assist with hospitality, clerk of course, heat sheet sales, timing equipment set up and tear down, awards processing, data processing and administration, and safety marshals.  More information will follow.

 DM Tuition Policy Reminder

The Dallas Mustangs is a competitive year round age-group swimming program.  As such we strive to provide consistent quality coaching and workout facilities.  To achieve this goal we establish pool rental contracts and salary commitments with our coaching staff for a full 12-month period. Tuition amounts are established based on the 12-month budget and divided into monthly or quarterly amounts to provide reasonable payment options for our Dallas Mustang families.  The Dallas Mustangs Swim Team is not, and was not designed to be a swim program where swimmers drop in one month and out the next.  Flexibility has always been important to us.  We try to work with each family on the team and we will continue to do so.

Tuition may be paid quarterly: September, December, March, and June, or monthly.  Tuition paid monthly includes a $5.00 per month processing fee.  (If tuition for the quarter is not paid by the due date, monthly payment has automatically been selected.)

·         Tuition is due from September through August.  (If you swim in July, you are responsible for August tuition.)

·         Tuition is due on the 1st of each month/quarter.

·         Leave of Absence (LOA) is available only for injury and medical reasons.

·         There will be a $10.00 per month tuition discount for the second and subsequent swimmers in the same family.  The fourth swimmer is free, but all swimmers must pay the annual registration fee.

·         A swimmer transferring from another team must be in good standing with their old team.

·         Statements are only mailed quarterly. If you have chosen to pay monthly, it is your responsibility to remember to mail or drop off tuition by the first of each month that we do not send statements.

·         There will be a $5.00 per family late fee after the 10th of the month for non-zero balance accounts.

·         The swimmer(s) may be barred from swimming if there is an aged account balance is excess of 60 days.

·         Please indicate in the memo portion of all checks what the payment is for (i.e. Dues – swimmer’s name, meet account, supplies, etc.).

·         If there is a problem with your billing, please contact the treasurer.

·         Should circumstances prevent full payment of your tuition, please contact the president.  Scholarships and alternate payment plans will be addressed on a case by case basis.  (Please Note: Lack of communication is not an option!)

·         Should you choose to leave the team – it is your responsibility to contact the treasurer or registration chairman.  (Informing the coach does not fulfill this responsibility!)

·         If you choose to leave the team for the summer, you must go through the tryout process in the fall. You may not return to workouts until you have attended the tryout, completed paperwork and paid your fees.  You are not automatically guaranteed a spot on the team. If your group is full, your name will be placed on the waiting list.  Any tuition/fee balances that were not paid when you left the team must be paid prior to re-joining the team.

·         If you choose to leave the team at any point during the year, you MAY NOT represent the Dallas Mustangs at any swim meet or event that occurs after the date you have left the team. Should you choose to participate in a swim meet after you have left the team, you must register for the meet and swim as unattached (Team = UN).

·         Tuition may be sent with the swimmer to the pool, or mailed to the Treasurer:
