Mustang Monthly - Internet Edition
May 2003
DISD is raising the pool rental
fees at Loos. The proposed rates, which
have already been accepted and will take effect beginning June 1, are almost triple the rate our
club pays now. Considering that the amount the Dallas Mustangs is currently
paying for renting Loos (close to $30,000/year), an increase of this magnitude
will have a huge impact on our club. This is absolutely unacceptable.
Please help us in getting this
proposal changed at the next DISD Board meeting. One way to show your support is to come to the meeting, which
will be on May 29. Another way to help
is to send a letter to the board members explaining the situation and stating
your objection to the increase.
We especially need those families
that live in the DISD district to make a call or write a letter. Anything and everything can help! The following are some points that might be
useful:

Outstanding
Mustangs!
Christie Kimm was selected for
membership in the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) at Marsh Middle School
(DISD) where she is in the seventh grade. The NJHS brings the accomplishments
of outstanding students to the attention of parents, teachers, peers and the
community. Chapters in more than 5,000 middle schools across the nation strive
to give practical meaning to the society's goals of scholarship, leadership,
service, citizenship and character. Congratulations Christie!
Upcoming
Swim Meets
We are hosting the 22nd Annual Dallas Mustangs “A/BB” Swim Classic at SMU from May
9-11th. We will be needing many volunteers to work in a variety of
areas. Victor Kimm is our Meet Director, so all questions regarding volunteers
should be directed to him at vkimm@worldnet.att.net.
The second meet we are hosting is the Texas Senior Circuit Long Course Meet #2. The meet is generously
sponsored by The Beck Group and is also being held at
SMU, from June 6-8th. Lilli Hansen (lillian.hansen@tccd.edu) is our Meet
Director and has already recruited the chairpersons for several jobs. I know
she would be thrilled to have many more volunteers lined up to work this
exciting meet! If you are interested in donating items for hospitality, please
contact the Blackman family (blackman@airmail.net) for specifics (they have graciously offered to run hospitality for
the volunteers, coaches and officials).
Team Trip
This year’s team trip is scheduled for Fort Smith, Arkansas on the weekend
of June 20 – 22, 2003. The meet we will be
participating in is the “Recordsetter Invitational”. Several years ago, we had
our team trip to Arkansas and thoroughly had a blast! We hope to have many
swimmers and their family members attend the trip. Watch for upcoming information!
